What we do in Children's Worship
Our goal at children's worship is for our children to experience God in a real way, and learn how to worship him according to the precepts laid out for us in scripture and by the church. Children's worship is not a seperate entity, but is rather an extension of the existing worship that occurs every Sunday morning at 11:00am at Willow Creek Church.
Praise: Our children enter the Creek to the sounds of praise music led by Mr. Robbie Andreasen. Our children are invited to continue worshipping God through song, and then sit together in groups by age to encourage the building of community.
Prayer: I, Drew Taylor, then lead the children in a prayer of illumination, which I explain is to help us talk to God and to help us focus our minds and hearts on what they are about to hear through God's word.
Preaching: I share a 10 minute sermon on the same passage that is being preached by Pastor Kevin, applying the message's content directly to the age and stage of our children. Each week, Pastor Kevin and I discuss and pray through the text, determining how we might best communicate it to our church family. The goal of every sermon is to clearly communicate the Gospel of Jesus Christ and how the good news of what Jesus did for us is applicable to our entire lives.
Response: After the sermon, we break into 4 small groups, based upon grade, to talk about the sermon and to allow our children to respond to questions and issues that have risen from the sermon.
Prayer: During the group time, our children have the opportunity to share prayer requests, which we coroporately pray for together as we gather back into a large group.
Offering/Benediction: Our children are able to respond in worship by giving an offering, with all money going to benefit our Dinner at the Creek ministry that provides meals for people in our community. Finally, we close in a blessing led by Robbie playing music as our children head over to the gymnasium for pickup.
